Lawyers and judges convened by the Ohio State Bar Association to analyze the report of the Ohio Supreme Court’s Task Force on Access to Justice have recommended a series of steps designed to provide more help to people who cannot afford to hire an attorney.
Among the recommendations to the Supreme Court were steps to make access to an attorney more affordable; to increase the number of attorneys willing to do pro bono work; and to increase the amount of funding committed to legal aids that provide representation in civil cases for low-income Ohioans. Summit participants also encouraged development of plain-language instructions for filling out legal forms and self-help kiosks to be located in courthouses.
