The Ohio Justice Bus is a mobile legal aid office and technology hotspot that allows legal aid and pro bono attorneys to travel to and provide legal services to rural and underserved Ohioans at no cost to clients. Position Description:
The Ohio Justice Bus Program Manager is responsible for ensuring the successful operation of the Ohio Justice Bus. The Program Manager outreaches to and liaises with community partners, such as bar associations, civil legal service providers, and other community organizations; schedules clinics and events around the state; and recruits and retains volunteer attorneys to support the civil legal work provided through the Ohio Justice Bus. In addition to community and attorney outreach and support, the Program Manager is responsible for operating the clinics and events around the state, which includes driving the Bus, a 24’ Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Van, to and from the clinics; setting up events; and interacting with attendees.
The ideal candidate is skilled at working independently and as part of a team; demonstrates professionalism, initiative, and attention to detail; and possesses outstanding written and verbal communication skills. The position reports to the Pro Bono Director.
The starting salary for this position is $75,000, including a generous benefits package, and is negotiable commensurate with experience.
Program Management (70%):
- Create and maintain relationships with community partners, including civil legal service providers, bar associations, and nonprofit organizations;
- Recruit and maintain relationships with attorney volunteers;
- Mentor and support volunteer attorneys;
- Attend and manage clinic logistics, including clinic, volunteer attorney, law student, interpreter, and other volunteer scheduling;
- Serve clients if volunteer attorneys are absent or clinic need exceeds scheduled attorney capacity;
- Review client evaluation forms and suggest program improvements as needed;
- Maintain Ohio Justice Bus data, including but not limited to, clinics held, clients served, and information on volunteers;
- Draft grant applications and reports; and,
- Process continuing legal education (CLE) submissions to the Supreme Court of Ohio
General Support Duties (30%):
- Maintain communication channels with volunteers and potential clients, including email and social media;
- Collaborate with Foundation staff to create promotional materials;
- Maintain, update, and create forms as needed; and,
- Drive and maintain the Ohio Justice Bus, including ensuring that the vehicle is fully equipped with necessary supplies before each outing.
Qualifications:
- Licensed to practice law in Ohio (J.D.)
- 3-5 years of experience preferred.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience working with low-income and vulnerable populations;
- Bilingual ability preferred;
- Sensitivity and cultural competency; and,
- Program management experience.
