Judge Andrew Logan of the Trumbull County Court of Common Pleas is the 2022 recipient of the Ohio Access to Justice Foundation Presidential Award. The award is given annually to individuals, law firms, or organizations that have made outstanding efforts to improve access to justice in Ohio.
Since 1996, the Foundation has honored leaders in pro bono who play an indispensable role in helping Ohioans address civil legal issues that impact health, safety, and financial security.
Judge Logan has demonstrated a sustained and impressive commitment to access to justice. Throughout his distinguished career, Judge Logan has led and developed several crucial programs that have been instrumental in helping Northeastern Ohioans address housing issues.
During the foreclosure crisis which devastated so many communities across the country, and particularly the Mahoning Valley, Judge Logan implemented a collaboration between the Trumbull County Court and Community Legal Aid to assist low-income residents in danger of losing their homes. The Court Clinic, as it came to be known, was staffed by legal aid attorneys and ensured that unrepresented low-income homeowners facing foreclosure had access to an attorney for advice or representation.
The Court Clinic’s results were simply tremendous. More than 17 percent of the homes preserved in Ohio under the Moving Ohio Forward Program were saved in Trumbull County, and hundreds of families were kept safely housed.
Judge Logan also played a critical role in creating the Clarence Darrow Clinic. This judicially led pro bono clinic covers referrals from all courts in Trumbull County to assist clients with consumer and housing matters.
In addition to his judicial duties, Judge Logan is an active member of the legal community. He maintains memberships in the Ohio State Bar Association, the Trumbull County Bar Association, the Ohio Judicial Conference, the Ohio Common Pleas Judges Association, and the Community Corrections Board.
For over 30 years, Judge Logan has been a true champion of access to justice, working tirelessly to ensure that the rights of all the citizenry that appear before him are protected. As stated by his nominator, Community Legal Aid, “Judge Logan is an unsung hero for the people of Trumbull County and a true champion for access to justice for all.”
