The Ohio Access to Justice Foundation welcomes Supreme Court of Ohio Justice Daniel R. Hawkins to its Board of Directors. Justice Hawkins will serve as the Foundation’s liaison to the Supreme Court of Ohio.

“We are thrilled to welcome Justice Hawkins to the Board,” said Foundation Executive Director Angie Lloyd. “His experience and commitment to justice will bring tremendous value to the Foundation as we work to ensure that low-income Ohioans have access to the legal help they need.”

Justice Hawkins was elected to the Supreme Court of Ohio in November 2024. Prior to joining the Supreme Court, Justice Hawkins served at the Franklin County Court of Common Pleas, General Division, receiving recognition from law enforcement and numerous community organizations for his service.

A native of Columbus, Ohio, Justice Hawkins has dedicated his entire career to public service. After earning his law degree from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law, Justice Hawkins began his career as an assistant prosecuting attorney at the Franklin County Prosecutor’s Office. He then spent 13 years as a trial prosecutor, with the last 10 years as director of the Special Victims Unit specializing in crimes of violence against women and children.

In 2013, Justice Hawkins was appointed to fill a vacancy in the Environmental Division of the Franklin County Municipal Court. In this capacity, he implemented new strategies to deal with vacant and abandoned structures that became a magnet for criminal activity. He also created a new neighborhood clean-up program directing individuals with court-ordered community service to pick up trash in the community.

The Foundation looks forward to working with Justice Hawkins and is grateful for his service and commitment to access to justice.

“The Foundation serves a vital role in providing access to the Ohio justice system for those who are unable to afford legal services,” Justice Hawkins said. “I am honored to contribute to this important work.”

The Ohio Access to Justice Foundation’s Board of Directors serves from around the state and is committed to improving access to justice. Meet the Board.
