COLUMBUS, OHIO (April 30, 2014) The Legal Organization of GE Aviation, a Cincinnati-based global provider of engines, systems and services, is the recipient of the Ohio Legal Assistance Foundation’s 2014 Presidential Award for Pro Bono Service. The award will be presented today in Columbus during the Ohio State Bar Association’s Annual Meeting and Convention.
The Presidential Award is presented annually to individuals, law firms or organizations that have made outstanding contributions to improving access to legal representation through pro bono or volunteer service to low income Ohioans.
The GE Aviation Legal Organization is being recognized for its support of a number of pro bono legal projects over the years. GE Aviation attorneys have hosted annual Wills Clinics in collaboration with the Volunteer Lawyers Project of the Legal Aid Society of Greater Cincinnati. GE Aviation attorneys have also taken a lead role in bringing the Pro Bono Partnership to the Greater Cincinnati area. The Partnership will match corporate attorneys in the area with non-profit organizations serving low-income clients.
“GE Aviation helps improve the communities where we live and work, and providing legal services to those who cannot afford a lawyer brings us closer together by reducing inequalities,” said Michael McAlevey, Vice President and General Counsel, Legal Operations and Business Development, who will accept the award. “We are both humbled and energized by this recognition.”
GE Aviation “has demonstrated outstanding leadership in helping individuals achieve justice through pro bono and volunteer service,” said H. Ritchey Hollenbaugh, a partner in the Columbus law firm of Carlile, Patchen & Murphy LLP and the Foundation’s immediate past board president. “I’m delighted to present this year’s award to our friends and colleagues at GE Aviation.”
