The Ohio Justice Bus is a mobile legal aid office and technology hotspot that allows legal aid and pro bono attorneys to travel to and provide legal services to Ohioans at no cost to clients. The Ohio Justice Bus also provides a traveling venue for legal rights education and provides technology to address unmet legal needs for Ohioans living in rural or underserved areas. Position Description:
The Ohio Justice Bus Project Attorney will be responsible for providing brief advice and guidance on legal issues as well as assisting with form preparation at up to 20 clinics to support a short-term project that will run from May 1, 2022 to June 30, 2022. The Project Attorney may also accept cases for representation as warranted. The legal areas in which the Project Attorney will primarily provide services include domestic law, wills, probate, public benefits, adoptions, guardianships, and other areas related to kinship care. Other civil legal aid areas that may occasionally arise include housing, record sealing, and bankruptcy.

The Project Attorney will be expected to work between 20-25 hours per week during the project term. The ideal candidate is dependable; punctual; skilled at working both independently and as part of a team; demonstrates professionalism, initiative, and attention to detail; and possesses outstanding written and verbal communication skills. The position reports to the Ohio Access to Justice Foundation’s Pro Bono Director.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • JD from an ABA accredited law school
  • Licensed to practice law in Ohio
  • At least 3-5 years of experience with general civil legal issues as described above
  • Experience working with low-income and vulnerable populations
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and video conferencing programs (Zoom, GoToMeeting, Microsoft Teams)
  • Displays sensitivity and cultural competency
  • Ability to multi-task and be flexible according to the demands of the project
