John Petit is a managing attorney of the housing and consumer team at Community Legal Aid. In the summer of 2020, amid the COVID-19 pandemic, John advocated for and oversaw the launch of the Tenant Assistance Project (TAP). TAP relies on the entire housing team at Community Legal Aid, as well as other CLAS attorneys, to help tenants facing or fearful of eviction during the current health crisis.
Under John’s leadership, TAP provides several resources for renters, including a weekly Zoom clinic. This gives tenants the opportunity to speak directly with an attorney about evictions or other general legal concerns. Other resources include a hotline for tenants and an online toolkit that directs tenants through the eviction process and informs them of information they will need for court.
John’s leadership has been exceptional, especially throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. He has risen to the occasion on top of his regular duties at Community Legal Aid and has increased its impact in northeast Ohio. The Foundation is pleased to recognize outstanding legal aid attorney John Petit.
