On June 5, the Foundation hosted a lunch and learn session at the Riffe Center for Ohio House legislative staff members eager to learn how Ohio’s legal aids can benefit constituents.
Foundation Executive Director Angie Lloyd highlighted the resources available for constituents with civil legal needs, including Ohio’s legal aids, Ohio Legal Help, and the Ohio Justice Bus. The annual event, always popular with staffers, was a full house this year, with nearly 50 aides in attendance.
“We’re excited for the continued opportunity to educate legislative staff on legal aid and its critical role in serving Ohioans within each of their legislative districts,” Lloyd said. “Legal aid is a valuable resource for Ohioans, and we appreciate that legislators are eager to share these resources with their constituents.”
In 2023, legal aid served 148,749 Ohioans, including 5,177 domestic violence survivors, 4,091 Ohioans seeking to seal or expunge criminal records or reinstate driver’s licenses, 18,591 seniors, and 64,269 children. The Foundation’s recently released 2023 Annual Report details these and other grantee accomplishments.
The Foundation will host a second session for Ohio Senate legislative staff members on June 18 at the Ohio Statehouse.
The Ohio Access to Justice Foundation is the largest funder of civil legal services in Ohio. A gift to the Foundation supports legal aid’s work.
