An office that provides free legal aid to low-income victims of domestic violence, elder abuse and other crimes committed in Muskingum and surrounding counties is closing.

The Southeastern Ohio Legal Services Zanesville office has given legal representation to more than 300 people this year, according to Managing Attorney David Little. The office also provides advice and help with pro se legal forms to roughly 300 people each month.

In addition to the Zanesville office — which serves Muskingum, Perry and Guernsey counties — offices in Lancaster and Marietta will close Jan. 31, said Tom Weeks, executive director of the Ohio State Legal Services Association. The association is in charge of nine field offices providing representation to low-income Ohioans in 30 Ohio counties.
